It’s pie time! Today and tomorrow Celebration, FL hosts the annual Great American Pie Festival, so now seemed like a great time to take a break from the re-cap of my amazing African adventures and focus temporarily on things back home. What’s the exact opposite of Africa and about the most American thing in the world? All you can eat pie!
Every year townspeople come out to Celebration Lakefront Park to enjoy the Great American Pie Festival. The pie festival boasts Cooking demonstrations, pie eating contests, craft and food booths, bouncy houses for the kids, and live music (mostly about pie).
But the main event is the Never Ending Pie Buffet. $10 gets you a wristband to enter a street that has been shut down and lined with booths from various restaurants, grocery stores, and bakeries each handing out pieces of their favorite pies.
The smart way to do it would be to go early because that wristband allows you unlimited entrance and exit throughout the day. Of course, after a couple rounds through the buffet, you don’t want to see another pie for a while.
I just got back from this years Pie Festival and if you’re looking to maximize your buffet time my picks would be Village Inn’s peanut butter cup pie, and anything at the Wick’s Pies booth, and I would probably skip Harlan Bakeries if I had to do it over again, but don’t take my word for it. See if you can try them all. That’s the challenge of the never ending pie buffet!
The festival runs Saturday, April 26th from 11am-7pm and Sunday, April 27th from 12pm-5pm. Don’t be discouraged if you missed it this year. It happens every year around the last weekend in April so there’s plenty of time to make the next one! Hopefully that one will have Key Lime, just a suggestion for the Pie Council (which is a real organization that puts on this event every year!)
[…] festivals, there’s literally something every weekend. In fact, in just one weekend I hit up The Great American Pie Festival and Altamonte Spring’s Winestock, and in doing so I had to miss the Taste of St. Augustine […]
