Diving in Dubai
If you have chosen to visit Dubai for your next yearly vacation and are looking for a new and exciting hobby to pick up, why not try scuba diving.
Dubai offers a lengthy coastline with glistening waters and beaches home to golden sand, making it the ideal destination for nature lovers, outdoor adventurers and beach bums alike.
If you want to try diving while in the city, put on your flippers and take to the water at these three locations:
Dive Atlantis
Atlantis, The Palm has a diving experience to suit everyone, including non-certified divers, and with over 65 000 marine inhabitants, there is a lot to see!
For those who want to learn how to dive in a safe and controlled environment before taking to the waters of the deep blue, PADI Dive Atlantis gives you the ideal opportunity to do just that. There is a range of courses suitable for beginners, including bubble maker courses for the little ones and PADI Scuba Diver for the adults, that allow them to take their first five in the largest open air marine exhibit in the Middle East.
For the more experienced scuba divers, there is a chance to experience the rare opportunity of swimming and interacting with the resort’s dolphins underwater. Additionally, there is an opportunity for the whole family to dive together during a Shark Safari! Located in Aquaventure Waterpark – a fun-filled Dubai aquapark – there is no experience needed for this diving adventure! Divers are fitted with a special helmet that allows them to safely manoeuvre on the bottom of Shark Lagoon and take in the various marine inhabitants – including sharks and rays – swimming around them.
The Pavilion Dive Centre
The Pavilion Dive Centre offers water lovers the opportunity to dive into the waters of Dubai and Oman and explore numerous sunken shipwreck and exotic sea cretures. However, they also provide courses for beginners that are taught by professional dive instructors.
For those who are more apprehensive about diving, The Pavilion offers Experience Programs for young and new divers who want to get their feet wet but do not want to commit long-term to diving.
However, if you are looking to take diving up as you’re a new hobby, guests have the opportunity to take part in a Discover Scuba Diving experience that is a fast and easy way to get a head start. During this experience divers will dive in the sea from Jumeirah Beach Hotel’s resort beach in shallow, crystal clear water, all while under the supervision of a professional.
The West Coast
If you are a qualified diver already, and are looking for the perfect place to dive in Dubai during your holiday, the entirety of the West Coast offers numerous spots.
Dubai does not have a natural reef environment, with the existing dive sites providing wreck diving experiences instead. The wreck sites – some of which date back to the gulf way and before – are only accessible via boat, with the visibility being between 5 and 15 metres.
Regardless of whether you are new to diving or if you’re a seasoned professional, Dubai offers a wide variety of diving locations and opportunities that should not be missed!

I like that the Pavilion offers Experience Programs. I think that would be perfect for me since I’ve never dived before. All great suggestions though!
Diving is something I need to think about doing while I am in Dubai … thanks for the idea!
I hadn’t considered diving or snorkling in Dubai. Hmmm- this makes me more likely to want to visit there. Thanks for the info.
Never associated Dubai with diving but glad to know its available there!
I never knew you could dive in Dubai, that’s awesome. What are the prices like?
I didn’t know there was an Atlantis property in Dubai! How awesome. They really do have it all in that city, huh? Great post and thanks for sharing 🙂

Diving without a reef but around the wrecks would be something different. I love that Dive Atlantas provides a first ‘diving’ experience to get the kid hooked on being underwater and what there is to see in a super safe environment.
I never would have thought to dive in Dubai. I visited the city for the first time in January and was fascinated. I’m actually not surprised that there are ample opportunities to dive there.
Thanks for this post – Dubai isn’t the first place I think of when I think of Scuba diving locations, but you’ve opened my eyes! I stayed at Atlantis when I was visiting a couple of years ago and would love to go back for a second stay. Maybe I’ll include a PADI course 🙂
I have always wanted to learn to scuba dive. I love that the Atlantis offers different opportunities for every level experience. I love places like the Aquaventure Waterpark! However, there is no amount of adventure that will put me in the same water as a shark! Just can’t do it. haha Thanks for the great post!
That’s the cool thing about Dubai, it’s got everything right in the city. Really. You can ski, dive. It’s totally amazing. I haven’t tried diving yet but I’ll be in Dubai soon so will have to check out their beginners course.
Looks like Dubai has some great diving options too though it never figured in my list of to do diving sites, but after reading the post it has been added to the list.
I loved Dubai. I didn’t go diving, but this looks pretty cool.
I would love to visit Dubai and have heard excellent things about Atlantis. It sounds like an excellent place for the family and I hope to visit before too long! Thank you for sharing.
How cool! I never thought about diving in Dubai but these all look like great options! I love that Atlantis offers diving for people who aren’t certified as well–great way to get into the sport!
And if you like to combine adventure with shopping and dining you must visit the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo at Dubai Mall ( https://touristino.com/articles/169-dubai_mall ). You can sign up for a 2 day scuba diving course and become a PADI certified diver, or opt for cage snorkeling or riding a shark scooter.
