Until a few months ago, the Denver Airport was the only place I’d actually been in Colorado (on layovers). In April, I finally got to explore the rest of Denver, but revisiting the airport was still the thing I was most excited about.
If you are unfamiliar with the Denver Airport Conspiracy fear not, I was too until last year when a bartender I worked with made me watch 1000 you tube videos under the guise of working (I’ve since been relieved of that position). I’ve wanted to go poking around there ever since. This conspiracy is rather dense and every time I delve into it I learn of a new element, so I’ll just cover what I’ve seen and heard.
-Secret Bunkers-
The crux of the Denver Airport Conspiracy is that the airport was built atop secret underground bunkers meant to house the world’s elite in the instance of some sort of global disaster, natural or otherwise. The story is that Denver had a perfectly functional, higher capacity airport closer to the city, and that this new airport was built in 1995 to distract from the real construction going on below. There seems to be no argument as to the existence of these underground bunkers, but airport officials claim this is nothing more than storage. This in itself would not be particularly peculiar, but coupled with the rest of the oddities at the airport, you can’t help but wonder.
There were some peculiar circumstances surrounding the construction however, it’s reported that there was no one foreman over the entire project, but rather several independent contractors working on pieces of the airport so that no one person knew the overall scope of the project.
Another interesting claim is that 5 buildings were constructed on the site, that were then found to have been “constructed improperly”, but rather than being torn down, they were simply buried and the airport was built on top of them, thus making the underground bunkers.
-The New World Order and Masonic Connection-
For most people, there are several pieces of evidence pointing to the New World Order. No one knows where the funding for the new airport came from, though we do know that it came in $2 BILLION over budget. The dedication corner stone mentions The New World Airport Commission as a contributor; an organization that has no record of existing before or since. It also features masonic symbolism and a time capsule intended to be opened by the people of Colorado in the year 2094, perhaps after (or to cause) some catastrophe?
It is also worth noting that the central hub of the airport is called the Great Hall, another nod to the Masons as this is what they call their meeting halls.
-The Mysterious Murals-
This on is my favorite. There is a series of murals by artist Leo Tanguma, which are described innocently enough.
‘The Children of the World Dream of Peace” is a powerful mural expressing the artist’s desire to abolish violence in society. One part of the diptych exhibits the tragedy and devastation of war and its impact on humanity. The mural then moves to images of smiling children from around the world celebrating peace prevailing over war.
Now, abolishing violence and peace prevailing over war seems like something we can all get behind. What’s hard to stomach however, is how anyone thought the images of death by plague and genocide were appropriate airport art.
Conspiracy theorist make the claim that these murals depict a mass genocide of various species and humans of all races followed by a time of peace after the earth has been “cleansed”, likely referring to the survival of the New World Order alluded to in several of the other airport oddities.
Whether you believe the theories or not, what is obvious is that the murals depict mass extinction, burning cities, and caskets containing people of all races as children cry over their graves.
The second mural features a large man in a gas mask with a sword skewering the dove of peace and weeping mothers carrying dead babies. A far cry from the paintings of sailboats and seascapes at most airports.
But all is well that ends well (if you’re part of the elite in the New World Order that is). The last mural shows doves perched on the the slain gas mask guy as the children of the world turn in their weapons under a lovely rainbow.
So if you’re inclined to believe the theories; humans really messed up the world, mass genocide, happily ever after. Simple as that.
-The Gargoyles-

I had not heard about this until after I got home, so unfortunately I didn’t get to see this little guy first hand. The jury seems to be out as to the meaning of this, but it’s certainly an odd piece.
-Chemical Warfare-
The inlay in the floor of the airport features what appears to be a mining cart with “Au Ag” on it. These are of course the periodic table symbols for silver and gold, though some theorize it’s code for Australian Antigen. Australian Antigen is a deadly strain of hepatitis that was reportedly discovered by one of the airports founders. This inlay is conveniently located right in front of the painting of our charming gas mask friend.
-Blucifer-

This is another one that I unfortunately didn’t get a good look at as I was flying at night. But this hellish horse stand outside the airport and is another example of unsettling airport art. Some say this horse is cursed. He has already taken one life, that of his creator during construction when the horse’s head fell on him.
-Nazi References-
Some people have noted that the shape of the runways that of a swastika. Personally, I think this takes a little imagination, but again, when all the piece are put together you can’t help but wonder. This adds to the theory that the bunker is for a New World Order or Neo-Nazi holding facility when the time comes.
There are also many Nazi references in the art, like this poem written by a 14 year old who died at Auschwitz.
I was once a little child who longed for other worlds. But I am no more a child for I have known fear. I have learned to hate…. How tragic, then, is youth which lives with enemies, with gallows ropes. Yet, I still believe I only sleep today, that I’ll wake up, a child again, and start to laugh and play.
-Random Rumorish Facts-
There are a few rumors flying around that are hard to pin down and find facts on, here are some of my favorites;
- The barbed wire surrounding the airport is facing the wrong direction, as though it were designed to keep people in instead of out.
- There was a sprinkler system installed in the underground tunnels to pump the Australian Antigen onto the masses rounded up for the great cleans (perhaps a nod to Auschwitz, famous for it’s gas chambers)
- Important people from around the world, such as President Obama, Queen Elizabeth II, and various other royals and dignitaries have all purchased property near the airport.
- The Denver airport has a fuel reserve 40% larger than that of the largest airport in the world, probably fuel to power the underground city of the Elite after the surface becomes unlivable.
- The structure the gas mask guy is toppling with his sword looks a lot like the Twin Towers, which is notable since it was painted years before the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Here’s a reminder,
So the prevailing theories are that the airport is either set up as a concentration camp of sorts to eliminate the less desirable humans, creating a smaller community of the elite, controlled by one world government, The New World Order…. or that the airport is set up to house and protect the world elite after some sort of catastrophe (perhaps caused by the New World Order).

I don’t know exactly where I stand on the Denver airport conspiracy, but I do know that there seem to be a few too many clues to be merely coincidental. Like so many of life’s mysteries, whether it’s true or not, it’s fun to speculate.
~
I look forward to the comments on this one. Did I miss any of the clues or theories? Are there any other similar conspiracy sights I need to visit? Most importantly, what the heck is going on at the Denver Airport?
WHAT?! I have never heard of this! I am always at the Denver airport as its a usual layover for me so I’m totally going to look out for some of these!

Most of the good stuff is outside of security. That’s why I never noticed on my layovers either. Definitely worth a visit though.
I just heard of this recently too and now you have me more intrigued! I’m going to have to plan a trip to or through the Denver airport soon. Crazy stuff!

Go to Denver! It’s a great city and if you’re looking to explore the airport, most of the good stuff is outside of security near baggage claim.
Oh I don’t even want to get into this one. If you have not watched yet, you need to watch all the Zeit Geist videos. They go in depth about some things like this and they will definitely have you thinking. I am a firm believer in all these theories. There are many things in this world that are swept under the rug!
I will definitely watch them! I don’t know exactly what to believe, but I love stuff like that. I’m sure some of the conspiracies have been blown out of proportion, but something weird is going on there for sure. I know there are all sorts of weird things going on right under our noses.
I had never heard about this but it´s very interesting! I’ve only been to Denver once but will be on the look out for these if I ever make it back.

I had been to Denver before too and had no idea. Once you start looking for it though, you can’t stop!
Such fun. I consider most of it planted info by conspiracy theorists but that doesn’t mean it’s not true, at least in part. Very intriguing with all the angles.

I have to agree. I think conspiracy theorists have run wild with a lot of this story, but I do think there may be a grain of truth in there.
I’ve never been to this airport but what strange things and even artwork to have available for public viewing, it seems so bizarre and out of place in my opinion.

Right! I don’t know if the theories are true, but I do know that that artwork would make anyone nervous in an airport.
Hmmm! Interesting story. So the building of the bunkers was intended to be a secret, but it actually isn’t a secret anymore. Sort of strange, don’t you think? When the government wants something to be a secret, then it REMAINS a secret. I don’t know what to make of this, but something smells fishy for sure.
Anda recently posted…Breakfast Cruise on Lake Brienz
I agree Anda,
I think something fishy is going on for sure, but it’s probably something totally different than what people think. It seems odd to me if the theories are true, why would they place clues to it?
Ironically, someone else was talking to me about this last week! I’m definitely looking into it more now. What strange things to discover.
Lesley recently posted…Family Fun in Shediac, New Brunswick
Really weird. I don’t know how I had went so long without hearing about it.
There’s nothing ironic about that. “Coincidentally” is probably the word you were looking for, but even that would be a stretch.
What the heck! I wish I had known about this when I was in the Denver airport a few years ago, I totally would have gone exploring, too!
Don’t worry Jessi,
I missed out my first couple of times in the Denver airport too. Most of the good stuff is outside of security near baggage claim so you don’t get to see it during a layover, but Denver is a great city, so it’s worth the trip!
I’ve never been to Denver or the airport, but the whole idea is crazy. I love weird things, and can’t believe I’ve never heard of this. I may have to visit Denver just to go to the airport.

It wasn’t the whole reason I went to Denver, but it was definitely up there. I love exploring bizarre things like this!
What a fascinating story! It never ceases to amaze me how creative conspiracy theorists are. As an Australian, I have to say that Americans take conspiracy theories to a whole new level!
Jo recently posted…A unique experience in Quebec City
Haha, that’s probably true! To be fair though, I think our government gives us a lot more reason not to trust them!
This has just blown my mind! That artwork is insane! Who thought images like that make sense at an airport? I will definitely explore more the next time I’m at the Denver airport. Thanks for the conversation topic! Can’t wait to talk to some friends/family about this.

Thanks Jackie,
It really is an interesting story, and the more you read about it the weirder it gets!
I’m really enjoying your blog because it leans toward the weirdness of mine! 🙂 haha I have never even heard of this at the Denver airport!! I’m so excited to check it out the the next time I go. I have, however, heard of the New World Order which I do partially believe. I don’t know.. those paintings are pretty cryptic!! I am not usually a conspiracy person but this is pretty eerie!!

Thanks Bobbi! I don’t consider myself a conspiracy theorist either, but I do love finding bizarre places to explore! I have to admit though, there does seem to be something fishy going on at the Denver Airport.
That mural totally creeps me out!! I’ve never been to Denver but I’m really going to have to check that out.
Christa recently posted…Exploring Panem at The Hunger Games Exhibition in NYC
It really is! Whether you believe the conspiracy or not, it’s certainly unsettling to see art like that at an airport.
CRAZY!! I had no idea, but you do watch films these days which depict similar set ups around the world and wonder if the important people are all part of a club and have taken these kind of measures in case of the end of the world!! I personally don’t know if I buy into the swastika run way conspiracy, I think that maybe takes it a little too far, though totally happy to believe the rest! Especially since everyone from the Queen to Obama have property nearby – WAY too much of a coincidence.
Super interesting post, thanks!!
Thanks so much for reading.
I agree with you Meg,
most of the stuff seems really fishy, but I think the swastika is a bit of a stretch.
We have flown in and out of Denver quite a few times. I’ve seen the horse but didn’t know about the other clues. I think the murals really clinch it. Next time we’re there I’m going on a conspiracy theory treasure hunt with your blog post in hand.
Lyn (aka) The Travelling Lindfields recently posted…Sitka, Alaska: Totem Poles, Eagles and Russians
It’s a pretty fun little treasure hunt. I had changed planes a few time Denver before I had known about this. Most of the best stuff is outside the gates near baggage claim.
Interesting story. Love me a good conspiracy theory. The only thing I didn’t take is the airport layout being a swastika, because it isn’t. Either it misses a part, or it has one added. At first glance, it losely resembles it tho. The poem actually fits the art. Talking of which, I didn’t see the resemblance of the art works buildings with the twin towers either. Probably a culture related thing. You see what you want to believe/expect to see. What I did notice was the thingy in the gargoyle suitcase looking like the scimitar of the soldier.
And how creepy/eerie that the creator of the blue horse was killed by his own creation.
Great read! They should make a movie of it.

I am glad you enjoyed your flight though Denver Airport. I HATE flying through Denver. They are 6 for 6 for losing my luggage and 3 of 6 for cancelling my flight. I don’t know how but that airport and I have issues. I hate when it gets up on my itinerary.

I love a good conspiracy theory! Those murals are a bit disturbing. The art in general is so dark. I would want to know how the elite will travel to this airport if there’s a major catastrophe and flights are grounded. Did they consider that?

Oh this was a fun read on a Monday morning!! I’ve literally just finished ‘Them’ by Jon Ronson, a journalist who spent time with extremists, fundamentalists and conspiracy theorists, so there was LOTS of NWO stuff in there (highly recommend the book to you by the way).
This now takes the hands down winner of my ‘best airport to have a few hours to kill in’ award! Thanks for making me aware of all these theories! The Queen and Obama thing is the big suspicious bit for me!
I can’t believe they even have art like that at an airport! Interesting but a bit unsettling
I have watched the shows about Denver Airport but you are the first ‘real’ person I have found that showed this stuff. It is pretty freaky!

Wow! I wonder if other airports have mysteries and conspiracy theories like this as well?
I have been through the Denver airport twice but never knew about this conspiracy theory. My husband’s daughter lives in Denver and we visit her and her family at least once a year, but we usually go there from Phoenix by car. So we often see the airport from the outside. Is there a clue to the unique tent-like designs of the roof that makes the airport particularly more expensive to cool?
I had heard of this but never saw any pictures. It is weird. Totally gives interest to all those stories about freemasons and all those other theories! Great post!
Ok, you got me. I’ve never been interested in visiting an airport before, just for the art and intrigue. But I”m in – great story.
