Denver weather can be unpredictable, or if you’re from Florida, always really cold. The cold I was prepared for, the rain not so much. Fortunately, once the weather turned for the worse,

"Denver,

I was able to take refuge inside the Denver Art Museum or D.A.M. I’m so glad I did. Otherwise I wasn’t planning to go, and would have missed out on a truly fabulous museum. Though, I suppose I should have known from the outside of the building alone.

"Denver

Free art before you even go inside!

"Denver

Of course the real gems are inside. Once inside you’ll find 7 floors of amazing art organized by geographic region as well as temporary exhibits.

I’ll start with one of the temporary exhibits on display while I was at the museum because it was pretty impressive.

"Linda

Starring Linda, a John De Andrea Sculptures. I’ll admit that I had never heard of the famous sculptor, John De Andrea, before visiting the museum, but their realism is striking. Of course, there is plenty of artistry too. I add that because there are few things more annoying that people that only like art based on how closely it resembles it’s subject in real life. In fact, “it looks like a photo” is my favorite art critique around my brother and his art student friends, I know it’s ridiculous, but look at these!

"John

"John

"Linda

I know it’s hard to tell from the photos, but the detail in these piece is staggering, down to every hair follicle and goose bump. It’s no wonder this exhibit was drawing quite a crowd.

"Linda

The permanent collection at the Denver Art Museum is equally impressive,

"Denver

I could go on and on, there are 7 floors absolutely full of fabulous and wacky art. Here are some of my favorites.

"Denver

There is enough to see at the Denver Art Museum to keep you occupied for hours and (obviously) you can take photos of everything! I love going to museums where I don’t have to pretend to send a text just to get a blurry picture of my favorite piece! If just looking at all of this wonderful art isn’t enough and you want to get your hands dirty, there are plenty of action stations with various arts and crafts projects. I suspect they are for children, but I definitely made my own post card!

"Denver

The Denver Art Museum is certainly worth the $13 admission to cozy up to the art work, but if you visit D.A.M. on the first Saturday of the month then admission is free! There’s no better way I can think of to spend a cold rainy day in Denver.
